New friends

I met 6 very sweet young women the other night. Joseph was out running and ended up back at the house around 4:30. The girls and I were waiting outside b/c of the 'mati lampu' or 'dead lamps' -- meaning the electricity was dead, so we were passing the time by swinging in our front yard. Joseph joins us on the porch and up zooms 3 motor bikes filled with girls who shyly stop at our house giggling the whole while. I still have a hard time recognizing women if I've met them wearing a head covering before, so I thought for sure I'd met at least on of these girls somewhere before and invited them to my house and just couldn't remember which one!

They could not stop giggling and were all so adorable in their awkwardness so I invited them in and after we began talking we figured out that they'd never met me before but saw Joseph out running and followed him home! They were 'mencari orang asing' -- meaning 'to look for white people' b/c they had a high school English assignment to interview a foreigner, so they spotted my husband and followed him home, hoping to interview someone who has white skin!

They staid for nearly an hour and we laughed as I answered SLOWLY their questions in english and then enjoyed a much funner conversation once we switched to the local language. They've come back once since then and each girl sent me a birthday message -- looking forward to more laughter with them!
