Visa craziness

So, this is the craziness that is our life here. We need a new visa to
stay in the country. The immigration office has decided they don't
love us being here, so they're not extending our current social visa.
So, the plan is to apply (and hopefully receive) a new visa that
allows us to live here for 12 months. The catch: we are required to
leave and re-enter our island/the country every 2 months. No biggie
right?

Here's the steps:
(1) Get our passports back from immigration here in River City.
(2) Joseph and Anna fly to capital city in this country next week to
apply for new passport (their passport expires in the next 12 months,
and to apply for a 12 month passport, you must have at least 12 months
left on your passport. makes sense)
(3) Wait 10 business days (during Christmas season) for passports to
be processed/issued.
(4) Trust SE Asian courier service to deliver our passports to us.
(5) Make copies of new passports and send back to capital city in this
country to begin process for new 12 months visa
(6) Wait one week
(7) While waiting and while have old passports in hand, travel out of
the country to get a 30 day tourist visa because our current visa will
expire before we get our new visa. (confused yet??) :)
(8) Return to our island with permission to be in country 30 days.
(9) Receive word that we can (hopefully) now get our 12 month visa.
(10) Travel to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to get new visa
(11) Get new visa (again, hopefully)
(12) Return home to River City with permission to live here for 1 year.
Timeline for all this: 3-4 weeks. 5 - 6 tops.
oh boy. here we go.
